Arnie Lund

Arnie Lund, Ph.D., CUXP has long been working as a researcher, practitioner and manager in the field of human-computer interaction.  He is currently leading Microsoft’s UX effort in cloud computing, and has managed the design of areas ranging from microsoft.com to tablet and mobile computing.  Arnie began his career at AT&T Bell Laboratories, helped start the science and technology organization at Ameritech, and directed the design of emerging technologies at US West Advanced Technologies and Sapient.  His research has included natural user interfaces, metrics for measuring user experiences, and a new area he refers to as extreme accessibility.

Arnie is a member of the ACM SIGCHI Academy, co-chaired two CHI conferences and received the SIGCHI Lifetime Service Award.  He is a Human Factors and Ergonomics Society (HFES) Fellow, served on the HFES Executive Committee, and led the HFES Institute which launched the first ANSI HCI standard and has long worked in the standards area.  He was president of the board of directors for the Board of Certification in Professional Ergonomics, and served on the board of directors for INFINITEC (a company focused on delivering state-of-the-art accessibility technology).
 

His Ph.D. in Experimental Psychology: human learning and memory is from Northwestern University, and his B.A. in Chemistry is from the University of Chicago.  He has more than 20 patents, and has written over 100 articles, chapters and papers in the areas of natural user interfaces and emerging technologies, and UX management.  He is on the editorial board for the International Journal of Speech Technology, and on the Advisory Board for the Journal of Usability Studies. His book User Experience Management: Essential Skills for Leading Effective UX Teams has just been published.  He has taught user centered design and HCI at Northwestern University and the University of Washington.
